In an ideal world, the first games of the 2020 cricket season would be taking place this weekend. The ‘long winter’ will have come to its natural conclusion, our ground would be ready for its first action and we’d all be looking forward to returning to our favourite cricket club for an exciting season.

Clearly, things aren’t so ideal right now. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this generation is suffering through unprecedented times, with thousands of lives being affected by the virus. The economy is also suffering, with businesses and their employees suffering from the knock-on effects of the current lockdown. Unfortunately, Roe Green Cricket Club is no different.

We pride ourselves on being a true family and community club. Whether you’re a cricketer, a parent or simply just a local resident who enjoys the odd drink on our spectacular viewing gallery, there’s something for everyone here. We’re extremely disappointed to not be able to entertain people at our club at the moment and show off all of the hard work that has gone into upgrading the club’s facilities over the winter months. Furthermore, the bar will remain closed for the foreseeable future, and unfortunately, this means that our main source of income has vanished.

Please be assured that the committee are working hard behind the scenes to ensure that the club is able to reopen as normal. Although we are unable to accept any physical help at the moment, we would be very grateful if you were to renew your membership (or sign up as a new member) for the year 2020. We appreciate that many of you will be facing various financial pressures, however, the club would be extremely thankful for your support during these difficult times. Memberships are available for as little as £20, and the committee have very kindly agreed to lengthen the deadline for signing up and receiving credit to spend at the bar. Please be assured that any credit applied would remain valid for the duration of the year.

Memberships can be purchased at the following link:

In the meantime, please remember that we are still here. If you need support, please ask – there is always someone willing to help. The Roe Green family are working hard to keep the cricket club functioning, and we are planning a number of community and social events ready for when we open againl

In the meantime, we hope that you and your families stay safe and remember – stay at home. The sooner we all follow the guidelines, the sooner we’ll be able to welcome you back to our club.

We hope to see you back ‘the green’ soon.
